Digipak pre production: Naming my artist
Possible names for my band:
Michael Stephens (My main actors name),
MentalBooks,
Vampire's Playground,
Deep puddles.
I liked the idea of having the actor's name as the artists name as I wanted to give special thanks to the actor by using his name however I didn't want to cause confusion through whether the main focus was meant to be on the album and the message of the album or whether the focus was on the celebrity status of the singer. Also I wasn't too keen on the name Michael Stephens as a indie recording artist.
The Deep puddles name was created because I waned a name that was quite light and fun (puddle) but also the word deep would portray the darker indie side to this album. Overall I have decided not to use this artist name as I feel that 'Deep Puddles' is a bit too cliche and may start to sound like an over dramatic pop artist's name.
The idea for Vampire's playground as it represents the darker side of this album and the indie genre. I liked the fact that there is the connection between a playground that is associated with children and Vampires. With the pandemic of Twilight Saga, (a book and series that the band and their fans will not want to be associated with.
Therefore after deliberation about what my band will be called I have decided to go with MentalBooks as I like the idea of combining two everyday words to make a band name. I wanted to include the word books because I feel that the word can represent someones life mapped out and put down like a diary. I liked the word mental because it portrays the darker side to the band as I want to reflect the indie genre by adding an element of meaning and darkness to the band and their album. I also felt that MentalBooks flows as a band name and also it would represent the band well.
